Williamsburg Retreat 2014

Back in March we went to Williamsburg for the MOMYS retreat (MOMYS stands for mothers of many young siblings).  This year was our third year going and we had such a wonderful, fun time.

The week started out as usual with an event called the All Together Get Together (or ATGT) where all the families get together and introduce their families and then there is a time of fellowshipping, a potluck meal and then at the end of the evening there is colonial dancing.

Fayth in her colonial dress.

Hannah and Elijah played the whole evening...

...and there was lots of colonial dancing.

At the condo resort that everyone stays at there is a playground that all my little siblings enjoyed, they went there often. :)

Hannah and Elijah loved swinging.

Fayth was so cute swinging, every time we would push her in the swing she would just laugh and smile, it was adorable.

Later that day we (all the girls) went to the mother daughter tea where they served everyone beautiful plates of food and then we all got to learn some things about colonial life while we ate.  I believe while we where there the boys went to do something a little more boyish like black powder musket shooting. :)

Here's some more pics of them at the play ground the next day...

That day we were going to have a tour in Colonial Williamsburg but they were calling for rain and so we did the tour at the resort (which is also a historical plantation).

In the middle of the week we went to the King's Ball and here is a family picture that we got taken there.

The day before all of us girls worked on making this cake for the Kings Ball.

We also got a pic of all the MOMYS (moms) that where there...

...and all the girls.. (not including babies)

...and all the boy's. (again not including babies)

The next day we were finally able to go to Colonial Williamsburg.  We got there late so we missed most of the tour but we where still able to enjoy the rest of the day. :)

Once the tour ended we walked around a bit before going back to the car for a picnic lunch.

I love all the beautiful scenery at CW.

After lunch everyone met up on the green beside the market for some more colonial dancing.
Last year it was freezing outside when we did this but this year the weather was great, it made it much more enjoyable. :)

Bradley took that time to draw; he doesn't exactly like colonial dancing.

On Saturday we invited some friends down and we all went to CW again for the day to look around some more.

The boys ran into a interpreter that they have met in years past.  He's the one that was trying to sell them the state of Kentucky one year. :)

And of course I had to get a pic of them in the stocks.

They had lots of fun locking each other up!

The next day we went to Jamestown.  It went from one extreme to the other while we where in Williamsburg, from snowing to the 70's, and this was one of the cold days thankfully it wasn't snowing or anything but it was very windy and cold.

First we had a tour through Jamestown.

Then afterwards we looked around at the different tents they had set up for an event called Military Through the Ages.
Then when we got too cold we went inside and walked through the museum.

At the playground again...

Hayden and Carter playing tennis.  Hayden, Bradley, Carter and I all enjoyed playing tennis and racket ball while we where there (I wouldn't say that we were very good at it though :).

Later that day went to Chippokes Farm which is one of the oldest continually farmed plantations in the country
Our tour guide first showed everyone some fossils and shells that had been found by the river.

There was also a huge sharks tooth but he said it wasn't a real one.

Then we went down to the river to look for some of our own.
Elijah found some rocks. :)

Then our tour guide took us through the old plantation house.  It has no walls right now as you can see but we could still tell where they were.
It had a beautiful view of the river.

Then we looked at all the displays that they had.  Each room had tools in it that where used for farming and farm life and as time went on the tools got better and easier to use.
We also got to see some of the animals that they had on the farm.

Another fun part about going to the farm was we got to ride the ferry.  By the looks of it we thought we wouldn't make it onto this ferry but we actually did along with 3 vehicles behind us!

And that concludes our 2 week trip to Williamsburg.

To God be the Glory,
Heather
